Watch This Video! Yvonne Savio on KTLA promotes Growing Veggies to Save Money

As you all know, we are planning on a rather intensive gardening program at Nora Sterry for the 2008-09 school year. This video features the Director of the Los Angeles UCCE Cooperative Master Gardener Program, Yvonne Savio, who is a mentor of all of us Master Gardeners, especially those of us who are diligently working to incorporate vegebtable and fruit gardens into every child's regular learning day.

Some agenda items to begin thinking about, and to add to:

1. How can we rapidly create an after-school program that benefits the students and their families by growing food on campus, managing the kitchen waste with comprehensive composting and worm bin management as well as schoolwide GREEN practices in terms of all systems.

2. Can we collaborate with Local Farmer's Market at Felicia Mayhood on Sundays so that the school can sell organically-produced veggies and fruits grown on campus?

3. Can we support the new approach to RE-THINKING SCHOOL LUNCH (Center for Ecoliteracy / Edible Schoolyard Model through this afterschool program?

4. What additional funding will this collaborative project involve? If funding is needed, where will we get it?
